Solano Kids Insurance Program (SKIP)

The Solano Kids Insurance Program (SKIP), a program of the Solano Coalition for Better Health, is a centralized health insurance resource for uninsured children and their families.  Our goal is that all children living in Solano County have health care coverage and access to health care services.  Our SKIP staff work with families:

  • Providing information about health care services and insurance options

  • Assists families to enroll in Medi-Cal, Healthy Families, Kaiser Child Health Plan, Healthy Kids Solano, and other Health care programs.

  • Connecting families with needed health care services and resources,

  • Advocating on behalf of enrolled families to navigate the various health care and government systems, and

  • Supporting legislative activity to improve health care services for children.

SKIP has developed a social services marketing model that provides outreach to schools, clinics, businesses, faith organizations, and other community-based organizations. SKIP’s customer service philosophy, that every individual we encounter be treated with dignity and respect and to work diligently to create win-win partnerships with the communities we serve has contributed to SKIP’s success in reaching uninsured children and adults.

SKIP recently celebrated its 10 year anniversary after submitting applications for more than 18,000 children & adults since its inception. In 2001, there were an estimated 12,000 children without health coverage in Solano County (2005 CHIS Study).   Today, there are less than 5,000 without insurance.  There are 53 Solano County elementary schools where all kids have health insurance. Solano County has one of the lowest rates of uninsured kids in the State at 96%.  We are clearly making significant progress in reaching our goal to insure all kids.

SKIP meets with families in convenient locations throughout Solano County and can be reached by calling 1-800-978-SKIP (7547).

Remember, SKIP’s mascot, SKIPPER Dog says,
